Holding tubes are a simple but critical part of pasteurization of heat-treating processes. The holding tube provides a fixed volume of tubing to "hold" a product for a set amount of time at a given flow rate. Typically made of 304 or 316L, CSI can manufacture your holding tube from AL-6XN to provide you with superior corrosion resistance.

The AL-6XN alloy is used in any process application plagued with chloride induced corrosion in the existing HTST processing system such as: sports drinks, ketchups, BBQ sauces, salsas, and sauces. See applications for more information. CSI designs their holding tubes to meet the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO), as well as FDA and USDA standards.

At Central States we can also pre-fit the holding tube with a 316L Flow Diversion Valve (FDV), which is a required element in High Temperature Short Time (HTST) processing. The FDV is a pair of automated valves working together to divert unpasteurized product back to a balance tank, provide leak detection or send pasteurized product to forward flow.

For proper sizing, certain critical points must be addressed:

  • Proper slope of no less than 1/4" per foot to allow drainage and meet USDA, 3A and other regulatory requirements

  • No short circuiting capability

  • Supports to maintain the tubes in a fixed position

  • Salt injection provisions for timing and confirmation

  • Optional flow diversion valve and controls

  • Outstanding welds, materials and workmanship

  • Heavy-duty frame design
